The Indianapolis Colts could be in for some major changes in 2015 for quarterback Andrew Luck, as wideout Reggie Wayne could consider retirement, while Trent Richardson's future is up in the air after his suspension and now general manager Ryan Grigson could look at the trade or release of the running back before next season.
The Colts lost to the New England Patriots in the Deflate Gate game and that came after the second straight AFC South division title for Luck and the team. Richardson did not play in the final two games of the playoffs for the Colts and had only one carry in the first round and now his future with the team is up in the air. According to reporter Mike Wells and ESPN.com, Richardson was suspended for two games after being deactivated in the second round of the playoffs and it would have extended to the Super Bowl had the Colts made it.
Wells reports that the suspension will extend into Week 1 of the 2015 season and now the team could use that to get out of Richardson's 2015 guaranteed salary. The reports says that the guarantees in his deal could be voided if the conduct was detrimental to the team and this comes after two disappointing seasons with the Colts. Richardson was traded by the Browns for a first round pick last year and in 29 games with the Colts he has just 977 yards rushing.
Richardson was scratched for the divisional playoff game after barely playing against the Bengals and this could signal the end for the running back in Indianapolis. The team could look at the trade or release of Richardson and this comes as general Ryan Grigson did not commit to Richardson being on the Colts for 2015 when asked about it. Richardson has a salary at over $3 million for next season and reports first came out that Richardson missed the Patriots playoff game for "personal reasons" and now his spot on the roster could be up in the air.
Richardson was the third pick in the draft behind Andrew Luck and the Colts were hoping he could help boost the rushing game after trading a first round pick for him. Richardson had a strong rookie season with 950 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns along with 51 receptions, but since then he has been a major disappointment. Richardson has not averaged more than 3.6 yards per carry in any of his three seasons in the NFL and now his future is up in the air after losing his job to Dan Herron this season.
Reggie Wayne is a free agent and it's not clear whether or not he will be returning next season for the Colts or anyone else. The Indianapolis Star reports that Wayne has not made a decision about next year and if he does return to the Colts, it will be in more of a mentor/reserve role. Wayne had 64 catches for 779 yards and at 36 years old, it's now TY Hilton as the number one receiver. Wayne was injured in 2013 and played in 15 games this past season.
