The Philadelphia Eagles may look at a Nick Foles trade this offseason as Chip Kelly tries to make a maneuver to trade up for Marcus Mariota and the St. Louis Rams could be an option for Foles, as the team is interested in making a change with Sam Bradford coming back after a serious knee injury last year.
Kelly has been mentioned multiple times in connection with Marcus Mariota, as he was the quarterback at Oregon when Kelly left for the Eagles. NJ.com reports that the Rams could be interested in a trade for Foles, as Sam Bradford is making a ton of money and is coming off of another serious knee procedure. The Eagles likely would want draft picks in return if Kelly is serious about getting Mariota. Foles went 14-4 over the last two years, but Kelly did not draft him and may not be as committed.
Bradford has missed a ton of time over the past few years and while the Rams want to keep him moving forward, Jeff Fisher cannot fully rely on him to be healthy. Bradford likely will be asked to take a pay cut in the final year of his deal and if he refuses to do that, he could get released. It's likely that Bradford agrees, as he is coming off of another significant injury and teams could be weary of signing him on the free agent market.
The Eagles won the NFC East division title last season and won the same amount of games this year, but that wasn't good enough for the postseason. Kelly is firmly in charge in Philly now, but the division will be tough next season with the Dallas Cowboys getting better and the Giants looking to rebound. The Redskins have been mostly a mess over the past two seasons, but with Scot McCloughan taking over as general manager, better times could be ahead.
If the Eagles make a move for Mariota and trade Foles or LeSean McCoy, it would mark the second straight season that they move a significant offensive player. Last year the team released DeSean Jackson and he ended up signing with the Redskins and now the Eagles could look at trading Foles while also making moves for Mariota. If the team trades Foles, they likely would be looking to get draft picks to then use to make another trade down the line with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or another team in the draft.
