The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to make some major moves in 2015, as the team may look at a Nick Foles trade to the St. Louis Rams in the hopes of trading up to get Marcus Mariota in the NFL draft, as he was the quarterback for Chip Kelly while he was at Oregon and there is a chance that Kelly could use LeSean McCoy and Foles to make all of it happen.
The Eagles come into the offseason after missing the playoffs in the NFC East and now Kelly is looking to rebound in 2015 with another appearance in the postseason. This offseason the Eagles have already gone through some major changes and that could play into what they do this winter. According to ESPN.com, Kelly was given more control over player personnel and now he will have final say on the roster after Howie Roseman was promoted to the business side of football operations.
Kelly is a coach with a specific vision and unique scheme and now he will be able to build the team entirely in his image. Previously, while he had great input, it was up to Roseman to find the players that Kelly wanted and now he will have more control over the moves the team makes. That is why many have speculated already that Kelly could look at orchestrating a trade to move up in the draft to get prospect Marcus Mariota, who previously played for Kelly while he was at Oregon.
According to NJ.com, the St. Louis Rams could be interested in a Nick Foles trade along with the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans and that could be an option for Kelly if he is looking to trade up for Mariota. NJ.com previously reported that the Eagles are talking internally about trading up for Mariota and that they expect it to take "a couple" of moves if they want to do it. The Rams have the number 10 pick in the draft and this could be a way to get the ball rolling for Kelly.
The Eagles have a number of ways they can tackle this situation, as Foles is an asset they can use along with LeSean McCoy and their draft picks. The team has their entire draft of picks to use this offseason and Phil Sheridan at ESPN.com has suggested that McCoy could be used as trade bait as well. While McCoy is one of the best backs in the league, Sheridan wrote that Kelly has long been successful using various backs at Oregon and in Philadelphia and could find another productive player to take over if McCoy is moved.
The Titans have the number two pick in the draft and if they are interested in Foles, Kelly could look at a way to move up with them. The Titans are expected to look at either Mariota or Jameis Winston at number two in the draft and depending on whom the Buccaneers pick, the Eagles could be interested in moving up. The Rams saw Sam Bradford deal with another serious injury and Jeff fisher may not be willing to hold out to see if he can stay healthy this year.
