Nick Foles has heard the trade rumors surrounding his name and he has no plans of any of them coming true. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has heard that his future is in doubt after he missed the second-half of the season due to a collarbone injury. With Marcus Mariota entering the draft, most assume head coach Chip Kelly will chase his former Oregon star as a number of teams are eyeing deals for Foles.
According to Foles, he is the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles and intends to stay in that position next season. There has been doubt with Foles. Prior to the injury, he was winning games put had 10 interceptions in eight games played. He was then replaced by Mark Sanchez and never seen from again in 2014. Now, as he enters the final year of his contract, Foles expects to return no matter what.
"Yeah you hear about it," Foles said, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com. "You are going to hear about it every single year. That's just part of it. The main word is 'rumor.' You can't put too much into it. . . . I plan on being in Philly. I only listen to Chip Kelly. That's what is most important. He is the one that will make the decision. Right now all I am going to do is work because I plan on being back in Philadelphia and playing with my team. That's all I ever thought. So that is what I plan on doing and I'm not looking at it any other way."
Foles and the Eagles have yet to discuss a contract extension for the quarterback likely because Kelly is weighing his options. According to multiple NFL sources, Kelly is preparing to do whatever it takes to trade up for Mariota in the draft, a quarterback that he recruited and coached at Oregon. It would be difficult for the Eagles to make that happen, but certainly not impossible.
If the Eagles feel they will land Mariota, Foles is gone. According to NFL.com, the St. Louis Rams are eyeing a trade for Foles as insurance for Sam Bradford. The Cleveland Browns could be options if Brian Hoyer does not re-sign. The New York Jets could be looking for an upgrade from Geno Smith. There is certainly a market for Foles and the Eagles plan to explore it.
Right now, Philadelphia can take that position in multiple directions. Matt Barkley will return as Sanchez hits the open market. Foles has one more year left on his deal and could get replaced by a rookie. Everythign is on the table in Philadelphia.
