Rory McIlroy has surged to first place at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour after the second round and heading into the third round he has a one stroke lead over Marc Warren as he tries to win a tournament to start off the 2015 season in the United Arab Emirates.
McIlroy is currently in the lead in the tournament and he has a one stake lead with the score of 14-under par. McIlroy is coming off of another strong year last season and he is one of the favorites in the majors once again after winning last season. McIlroy has played well here before, as he had previously won his first professional victory and now he has the chance to get another win.
Tiger Woods is in Arizona on the other side of the world and is struggling mightily, while McIlroy comes in after putting in a round without any bogeys. McIlroy ended up with an eight under score and now he heads into the third round in the lead in the tournament. McIlroy is ahead of Marc Warren and Graeme McDowell comes in tied at third after starting off well.
Stephen Gallacher is the defending champ at the tournament and he comes in after putting in a 67 and he had four birdies to finish his round. McIlroy was only able to get half of the fairways on 14 holes, but he was able to get things going in his short game and that kept him on top. McIlroy also was mostly mistake free and now he has a slight lead and will be looking to push it when he takes the course for round 3. Sergio Garcia ended up missing the cut at two over and Woods is in danger of that over on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy comes in top ranked and he will be looking to stay there with his performance this year. Woods is across the world having a dreadful start to the year and now many wonder how he can recover moving forward. Woods dealt with injuries and surgery last season and missed a long stretch of time and now he is trying to come back strong for the 2015 campaign.
