The Mexican Men's Soccer team claimed its first gold medal in the event after defeated Brazil 2-1 in the final at the London 2012 Olympics.
Oribe Peralta will go down in history as the scorer the two goals which led to victory and he was not satisfied as he constantly kept challenging Brazil in his attempt for a hat trick.
The action for Mexico began early, far too early if you ask Brazil.
Peralta scored on the 37th second. That is correct. Not on the 37th minute. The Mexicans got on the board on deflection as Brazil turned it over on their side of the field. Peralta took the deflection and sneaked a right footer past Brazil's goalie, Gabriel.
The goal brought down Brazil's energy level. They seemed defeated as Mexico controlled the game's first half minutes of the match.
It took Brazil a while to settle in, but when they did they threatened hard. They brought Hulk in at the 31st minute. By the end of the half, they had taken 8 shots, 3 on goal compared to Mexico's 1 shot on goal and 6 shots in total.
Mexico came back in the second half and did not get a lot of chances, but definitely maximized their opportunity as Peralta knocked in a header by the 74th minute, making it a 2-0 match.
Brazil controlled the ball for a good portion of the game. They finally got a score in the 91st minute by Hulk.
Brazil had the opportunity to tie in the 92nd minute, as three minutes were added to stoppage time. Hulk took possession of the ball on the right side of the penalty area. He put a ball over the middle for Oscar as he was wide open and missed the header as it went over the goal.
Brazil is still chasing the sought after gold medal. Maybe they can do it in 2016 in front of their home crowd.
