The United States' Women's Basketball team won gold after defeating the French team 86-53 in the final game of the Olympic event.
With the win the U.S. stays perfect in the 2012 Olympic Games, wins their 41st consecutive Olympic game and captures their fifth straight Olympic gold medal.
Led by Candace Parker's 21 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, the USA was able to stay in the game and guide the team to victory.
The USA struggled in the second quarter as they had turnovers and could not make any buckets. Coach Auriemma was displeased with the offensive production.
What saved the U.S. was holding France to just 19 percent from the floor in the second quarter. Auriemma called for a full court press, which had the French off balance and led to a couple of turnovers.
Candace Parker saved the day as she had 15 points and 9 rebounds by the half, keeping the U.S. in the lead.
The USA turned it up in the third quarter as they outscored France 26-12. A three pointer from Sue Bird, who finished with 11 points, ignited the offense giving the USA an 18-point lead with 5:50 minutes left in the third quarter.
By the time went into the third quarter the U.S. led 63-37 as they had put the game away in the fourth.
