Like all great things, the London 2012 Olympics will come to an end, but this grand event will end with a bang on Sunday. There is a great list of performers bidding farewell to the games that entertained the world for a week and a half at the Olympic Closing Ceremony.
The action begins at 4 p.m. ET/ 9 p.m. GMT.
The event will be a little different than the inauguaration. Instead of having the athletes march out with their specific countries, all the athletes will be mixed up in their march in. The significance of the act is supposed to represent world unity. They competed against each other for half a month and now they will all enter together.
The most important countries, however, will be Greece, Great Britain and Brazil.
Why these three?
Because Greece is where the games originated. Britain hosted the event and Brazil will be responsible for bringing the world the games in 2016.
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, will hand over the Olympic Flag to Rio de Janeiro's mayor Eduardo Paes.
The portion of the show that everybody is waiting for, the performers' list.
The theme of this Closing Ceremony will be "A Symphony of British Music." In the Opening Ceremony, they did a great job displaying their talents and the artists that have put England on the map in the music industry.
On Sunday, though a specific list was not developed, music director David Arnold of the event said it would be "slightly anarchic, slightly mischievous, funny, heart-warming, emotional, inspiring, and uniquely British" production, much like the Opening Ceremony.
Here is the list produced by the Associated Press: Pet Shop Boys, Annie Lennox, Fatboy Slim, The Who, George Michael, Muse, Ed Sheeran, The Spice Girls, Queen, Ray Davies, Paul McCartney, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Kaiser Chiefs.
Muse is said to be performing their hit "Survival."
That is only 16 of the 20 performers expected to appear.
Also rumored to hit the stage: Elton John, Paul Weller, Ray Davies and the Kinks, Adele, Madness, One Direction, and Take That.
Arnold only shared that there will be at least 30 musical numbers, so it seems that there will be a few surprises along the line. There will also be many of parties going around in the city of London following the games. There will be a closing-night concert in London's Hyde Park with Blue, New Order, and The Specials, which is not as exciting as a yacht party rumored to be taking place, but something is something.
London had over 40 million people watching the Opening Ceremonies and that's not counting the 80,000 that jammed the stadium to view the spectacle live.
They will extinguish the torch, but you can expect a lot of fire and jubilee as there will be plenty of pyrotechnics lighting up the arena.
It will be a spectacle you will not want to miss.
