Buffalo Bills Rumors: Jay Cutler Trade, Richie Incognito, Mark Sanchez Targets With Darrelle Revis For Rex Ryan? CJ Spiller Return Possible

Feb 06, 2015 09:28 AM EST

The Buffalo Bills come into the 2015 season with a new head coach in Rex Ryan and he may look at some free agents or trades to help turn things around, as Jay Cutler, Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez, Brian Hoyer and Darrelle Revis could be targets and this comes as CJ Spiller could be an option to return as well as he is about to hit free agency after dealing with an injury last season.

Ryan is in a similar position that he was with the Jets, as the Bills are a team that struggles on offense at times and has a strong defense. If Ryan can get a better quarterback, there is a chance that this team could be playoff bound for the first time in years. Kyle Orton wasn't terrible in 2014, but had the team had a better quarterback, there is a chance they could have been in better position to make the playoffs. The Bills have some strong offensive personnel in Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Fred Jackson, but they need a quarterback to bring it all together.

UPDATE: ESPN.com is reporting that the Bills are close to a deal with free agent Richie Incognito. Incognito was previously let go by the Dolphins after his bullying incidents with Jonathan Martin.

The Bills used Manuel and Kyle Orton last season, with Orton taking over for Manuel early on after Marrone made a change at quarterback. The Bills finished the season with a winning record for the first time in years and that led to Marrone opting out of his contract unexpectedly. Ryan was hired soon after that and he was enthusiastic in his opening press conference, saying that the Bills have the potential to be a playoff team.

The Jets have always been considered an option for Revis and after Woody Johnson made some comments earlier this season, ESPN and other outlets picked up on it. Adam Schefter at ESPN.com reports that Revis will be a target for the New York Jets as well as the Buffalo Bills, where he could reunite with former head coach Rex Ryan. Revis has enjoyed his time in New England, but the team may not want to pay him $20 million and could try and sign him to a new deal.

Revis had another strong season last year for the Patriots and that came after a Pro Bowl appearance with the Buccaneers following his trade from the Jets. Revis was released by the Bucs in a cap saving move and he was happy to move to New England, where he was used as a shutdown corner again. Revis came back from ACL surgery and has looked very good since then and he has been able to continue as one of the top cornerbacks in the league.

Ryan and the Bills are more likely to look at the free agent market for a quarterback, as Hoyer and Sanchez could be short term options while Manuel develops. Ryan said that he thinks Manuel can be a starting quarterback in this league, but he clearly needs more time to learn. Ryan takes over the Bills and has a similar situation that he had with the Jets, as he has a strong defense with a struggling offense and a young quarterback that needs more time to develop.
