The LA Angels will be without outfielder Josh Hamilton for up to two months after he underwent shoulder surgery and that means the star could miss spring training and Opening Day, the team announced on Thursday.
According to ESPN.com, Hamilton underwent shoulder surgery to help repair an AC joint in his left shoulder and he could miss between six and eight weeks with the injury. Hamilton will be able to resume baseball activities three to eight weeks after the surgery and overall he will be out between six to eight weeks.
Hamilton has been dealing with nagging injuries over the last two seasons and he missed 20 games at the end of last year with shoulder issues. Hamilton did not have a hit in 13 at-bats in the postseason last year for the Angels and they lost to the Royals in an upset first round series. Hamilton had back pain last season and that came after he previously was out seven weeks during the year with a thumb injury.
Hamilton previously signed a five year deal worth $125 million with the Angels and he is entering year three of that contract. The Angels were the top team in baseball last year while winning 98 games, but they were swept out of the postseason by the Royals, who ended up in the World Series. Mike Trout won the MVP with a .287 batting average, 36 home runs and 111 RBIs.
