NFL Preseason Schedule 2012: New York Jets, Houston Texans and New England Patriots Headline Matchups

Aug 14, 2012 02:22 PM EDT

The New York Jets, New England Patriots and Houston Texas have exciting matchups in week 2. Though not likely, these would be ideal Super Bowl matchups because they feature popular teams or young rosters.

Yeah. Okay. It's just the preseason, but what wrong is there in dreaming of Super Bowl matchups already. Sure the teams won't be 100 percent since it's just preseason, this could be a first look at talent that is to come in the 2012-2013 season.

These are the three matchups to look forward to in Week 2.

New York Jets vs. New York Giants
New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Houston Texans vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Jets will face an injury plagued New York Giants team on Saturday, August 18th at 7 p.m. ET.

Gang Green has always made noise with the stars in their team and head coach Rex Ryan. However, most of the noise comes off the field rather than on the field, which was okay in 2009 and 2010 when they made the AFC Championship Game, but last year they struggled.

They brought in Tim Tebow, who will most likely help the team's chemistry and, hopefully, though it has not occurred yet, serve as a positive distraction for the messes that usually occur in the locker rooms and press conferences.

They have been very secretive about their wild cat formation, so Jets fans are praying that Tebow can make a difference.

The Texans face the Niners in a matchup that features two young teams with talent all over their roster.

The action starts at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The Niners have a devastating defense lead by Patrick Willis and Alex Smith had a season many were waiting for to come in the years prior. With a head coach they can trust, the sky is the limit for the 49ers. They lost a heartbreaker to the Giants in the NFC Championship Game, but look for the team to bounce back with another great season.

Matt Schuab will look to make a comeback in 2012 after suffering an injured Lisfranc (foot injury) that kept him out for the season. THey have running back Arian Foster looking to have another solid season. Despite losing Mario Williams to a big contract offer by the Buffalo Bills, the Texans are still the favorite to win the AFC South.

The Patriots  will face the Eagles in a rematch of the Super Bowl XXXIX. The Eagles have a completely different roster, but they still have Andy Reid as their coach.

The action begins at 8 p.m. ET as Monday Night Football will broadcast the game.

The Patriots are always a threat to make the playoffs and Super Bowl. The Eagles struggled last season after being regarded as one of the favorites to win it all.

Quarterback Michael Vick has placed the Eagles in the front seat saying they can win it all.
