The U.S. Open 2012 is still a couple of weeks away, but the excitement can already be felt. The Unites States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that Jordin Sparks will be guiding the Opening Ceremony of the U.S. Open. It will take place on Monday, August 27th, before the night session of the tournament.
Sparks is no stranger to the U.S. Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium. She performed for Kids' Day in 2009 and she will be hosting the 2012 event.
On the 27th, Sparks will perform "Celebrate," the record from the movie "Sparkle." She starred alongside Whitney in the film in Whitney's last performance.
After this performance she will then sing the national anthem.
Lights and a video show will take place, giving the fans a new, exciting feeling to the U.S. Open. They are not trying to do anything hear the 2012 Olympics, but it definitely served as motivation.
"Our goal is to take our Opening Night Ceremony to the next level and create a memorable moment for all of our fans in the stadium and those watching around the world," said Jon Vegosen, the Chairman of USTA.
The U.S. Open will begin with a morning session on the 27th and have an evening session, which is when Sparks will perform.
The tournament is set to end on the September 9.
