Now that Rafael Nadal is out of the competition, Great Britain's Andy Murray, the 2012 London Olympics' gold medalist, will become the third ranked player in the U.S. Open tournament that is set to begin on August 27.
Murray was ranked fourth in the world before Nadal pulled out of competition on Wednesday as he continues to recover from his knee injury.
Murray was the runner-up at the U.S. Open in 2008. He is coming off strong performances at Wimbledon where he also finished as the runner-up as he continues to chase his first Grand Slam title that has eluded him throughout his eight-year career.
In 2011, Murray was bounced in the semifinals, but has proven that he is a top competitor in 2012 after semis and quarters in the Australian and French Opens respectively.
With Murray's advancement into the third rank, American John Isner, 27, moves into the 10th spot, shaking up the Top 10 after coming into the U.S. Open ranked 11th in the world.
From then on everybody else gets a bump up in rankings.
The U.S. Open launches on August 27 and will run all the way to the September 9. Novak Djokovic, who is ranked 2nd, enters the tournament as the defending champion as he captured the title in 2011.
