Another weekend, another New York Knicks blowout. At this point, things are going to get real ugly for the franchise before they can even think about improving. The Knicks roster is simply not made to compete after the team made a number of moves throughout the season only to pair them with losing Carmelo Anthony for the remainder of the year. That has resulted in some ugly losses and a very unhappy Phil Jackson.
The Knicks fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers over the weekend in a game that was very ugly. The team lost by 18 points to the Cavaliers while holding on the league's worst record at 10-45. Sure, no one expected the Knicks to wn an NBA title this season, but no one expected things to get this bad either. As a result, Jackson hit up Twitter to express his displeasure with the team's overall effort.
"Each NBA game is an opportunity for players to show their "best" nature and please the basketball gods...and those who know what "It" takes. Today's game vs. Cavs gave bb gods heartburn and those that know what "it" takes/means a smh," Jackson tweeted.
So far all of the roster moves Jackson has made have backfired on the team. Iman Shumpert and JR Smith who were traded away returned with the Cavaliers to put on a true show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Tyson Chandler is now a defensive star with the Dallas Mavericks. Jose Calderon has done nothing this season along with rookie Cleanthony Early. The best moves the Knicks have made are signing Lou Amundson, Langston Galloway and Lance Thomas to contracts after their 10-day deals expired.
Jackson is simply hoping the Knicks can tread water long enough to get to free agency. The New York Times are reporting Jackson has big plans in the offseason that could set the Knicks on the right track quickly. New York plans on chasing big names on the market in the coming year. Goran Dragic is still a major priority despite his trade to the Miami Heat. Greg Monroe is a top priority along with Marc Gasol. LaMarcus Aldridge will also be a priority as he hints a departure from the Portland Trail Blazers. If Jackson makes the right moves, the Knicks fans might be able to show up to games new year without a bag over their head, but not this season.
