The Miami Dolphins may look at a Mike Wallace trade this offseason and teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders could be potential options, as the team may get rid of Wallace after he had issues with Ryan Tannehill and after the emergence of rookie Jarvis Landry last season.
The Dolphins are coming off of another season where they missed the playoffs and with pressure on GM Dennis Hickey and coach Joe Philbin, they could look at making some major changes. According to James Walker at ESPN.com, the Dolphins may consider a Wallace trade this offseason and some teams that could fit the receiver include the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns and Eagles.
Wallace is set to make $10 million in salary along with a workout bonus and that could lead to him getting moved. According to the Miami Herald, the team may ask Wallace to restructure his deal to help free up some cap space and that could come ahead of the opening of the league year. The report says that Wallace is due a $3 million bonus in March and that part of his salary becomes guaranteed if he is on the roster at that date. The team may not make a move before then, but that is the first major deadline for the two sides.
Wallace has a large salary and since coming to Miami he has been mostly a disappointment for the team. Wallace has not missed any games since coming to Miami, but in his two seasons he has been less than 1000 yards and has not clicked with Ryan Tannehill. The team is set to extend Tannehill and with a big contract coming to the QB, they could look at moving Wallace. The upcoming draft is deep at wide receiver according to scouts and the team also has a solid vet in Brian Hartline and an emerging star in Landry.
Wallace had 67 catches last season and tied his career high with 10 TDs, but he had just 862 yards and only one game over 100 receiving yards. The end of the season was also a mess, as Wallace reportedly pulled himself out of the final game against the Jets. The receiver said he was benched and there were conflicting reports about what happened, but neither result looked good on Wallace. Landry led the team with 84 catches and had 758 yards in his first season as a pro.
Earlier in the offseason Hickey refused to make a commitment to Wallace when asked by reporters about 2015, but there have been positive signs since then. Hickey met with Wallace this month and while he did not give a firm commitment for next season, he said that the two had a "good conversation" about the future. The team will not clear too much space with the release of Wallace, so a trade is much more likely than that move.
Walker at ESPN lays out some situations that could fit Wallace, writing that the Colts, Seahawks, Saints and Vikings all could be options. Those teams need an impact receiver and a change of scenery could open up Wallace for a bounce back season.
