The first week of the English Premier League is almost over and the standings are in. By no means will the first week of football mean much as there are nine months of soccer left to be played, but there were sweet surprises over the weekend.
Fulham and Swansea City went on scoring sprees against their opponents. They sit at the top of the standings after their victories and five goals scored.
Not five goals combined, each team scored five goals each in their Saturday games.
Fulham faced Queens Park Rangers and in front of the home crowd defeated their opponents easily. They scored four goals in the second half. Miguel Michu and Nathan Dyer both had two goals each in the match.
Swansea City faced Norwich. Madlen Petrick had two goals to lead the team in scoring and to a victory.
West Bromwich Albion surprised Liverpool with a 3-0 shutout. It was probably the second biggest upset of the first week. They had a one-man advantage after Liverpool's Daniel Agger received a red card.
After his removal from the game, West Brom scored two goals to ensure their victory over Liverpool.
The last top spot goes to Chelsea who defeated Wigan 2-0.
Honorary mention goes to Manchester City as they rallied back to beat Southampton late in the second half after trailing 2-1.
Still to play are Manchester United and Everton who will lock up Monday afternoon or evening. Depends what part of the world you are watching from.
