Cleveland Browns Rumors: Josh McCown Signs, Mike Glennon Trade, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett Not Options Over Johnny Manziel?

Feb 27, 2015 06:43 PM EST

The Cleveland Browns have "sniffed" around on Mike Glennon this offseason and could look at a trade for the quarterback with the Buccaneers, as they are likely to draft Jameis Winston and if that doesn't work out, the team also could look at Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, Mark Sanchez and Jake Locker on the free agent market over Johnny Manziel starting in 2015. Update: Josh McCown signs with Browns per media reports

According to ESPN.com, the Browns have "sniffed" around on a Mike Glennon trade, as Jeremy Bowler writes that the Bucs could be willing to trade him if they pick Jameis Winston. The Browns have the most draft picks of any team in the draft and that could give them the ammo to get it done. The team also could look at the free agent market, as names like Josh McCown and Ryan Mallett are there with Brian Hoer. Pro Football Talk reports that McCown is a target for the Browns.

McCown played in 11 games last season, which was the most for him since back in 2004. McCown could be a solid bridge quarterback option for teams who bring in young players and the Browns or Bills could fit that situation. The Bills have EJ Manuel, but he needs more time to develop and it's likely that Rex Ryan brings in a veteran to start this season. The Browns also could be an option for the same reasons, as they could look at McCown over bringing back Brian Hoyer.

According to Pro Football Talk, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that McCown is a potential target for the Browns and that he has a past relationship with new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. McCown was released last week by the Buccaneers and he has had interest from the Jets, Bills and Titans on the market. The Buccaneers also may look at a Mike Glennon trade and that could be another option for the Browns. The team has the most draft picks of anyone in the league and they could likely pull off a trade for Foles or Glennon without breaking the bank with those picks.

Bradford could be too risky for the Browns, but they have a ton of draft picks and could look at making a trade. The team has Brian Hoyer as a quarterback target and they also previously had interest in Kirk Cousins at the draft last year. The team offered a fourth round pick for Cousins and was turned down, but this offseason things could be different. Cousins reportedly wants a chance to start and with Jay Gruden already naming RG3 the starter, he may ask out of Washington.

At the QB position, the Browns are basically starting at square one right now and while Brian Hoyer may return, the team could be looking at other moves. Cutler reportedly could be available, while names like Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford and Jake Locker are other potential options with Kirk Cousins. The Browns have tons of cap space and extra draft picks this year, including two in the first round, meaning they have the flexibility to look at all options.
