The NY Giants are coming into the 2015 season looking to snap a three year playoffs drought and they may look at free agency as a way to do it, as names like Vince Wilfork, Ndamukong Suh, Steven Jackson, Reggie Bush, DeAngelo Williams, Shane Vereen, Bryan Bulaga, CJ Spiller and Mark Ingram could be potential free agent targets, while Jerry Reese may try and bring back Antrel Rolle.
The Giants won only six games last season, but they finished the year on a high note by winning three of their final four games. Odell Beckham gave the team a big reason to look forward to the 2015 season, as Victor Cruz is expected to return to the offense after missing over half the season while dealing with a knee injury. According to ESPN New York, the Giants will have around $25 million in cap space for next year and they have freed up more by releasing veterans like JD Walton and Mathias Kiwanuka. Vince Wilfork was let go by the Patriots after they did not pick up his option and he could be a potential target for the Giants. Pro Football Talk reports that the team will make a run at Suh, while Shane Vereen also could be a target.
The team released linebacker Kiwanuka to save about $5 million in space and they could ask Jon Beason to take a pay cut. ESPN.com reports that the team may also ask Eli Manning to restructure his deal or sign an extension to help free up more space. According to Pro Football Talk, the team is going to make a run at Ndamukong Suh and while it's unlikely they sign him, the Giants are planning to "kick the tires" and could make an offer.
The team has a need at running back and players like Shane Vereen, Mark Ingram, DeAngelo Williams or Steven Jackson could be options. The team has Andre Williams and Rashad Jennings, but they may want some more depth after Jennings dealt with injuries last season. The team has Williams coming back for year two after a solid rookie season.
Jason Pierre-Paul and Antrel Rolle are the most significant players hitting free agency for the Giants and the team has a number of names coming off the books, including Mike Patterson, Walter Thurmond, Henry Hynoski, Mark Herzlich and Jacquian Williams. John Mara said the team plans on trying to work out a long term deal with JPP and this comes after they used franchise tag on him. JPP is looking to get around $15 million per season and that is where the franchise tag is for DEs this year. Rolle is coming off of a five year deal, while Pierre-Paul had a bounce back season with 12.5 sacks last year.
Reese isn't likely to spend big on free agency, but he could make some significant moves. Ndamukong Suh has been mentioned by some as a potential target, but it's unlikely the Giants drop that much money on one player. Shane Vereen, Bryan Bulaga and CJ Spiller were all mentioned by Dan Graziano on ESPN as players the Giants could target, while Walter Thurmond is one player they could look at retaining.
