The Kentucky Wildcats are one game away from history. The SEC East team has remained perfect with one final game of the regular season remaining as they have the chance to earn the school's first-ever unbeaten regular season. Capping off the impressive run will certainly not be easy. With every team vying to be the one to take down the Wildcats, the Florida Gators get their chance to spoil history.
Kentucky avoided a scare earlier in the week when they had to rely on a late comeback to beat the Georgia Bulldogs who looked like they had Kentucky's number the entire game. However, once again the Wildcats did not lose and they look to keep it that. However, earlier in the season, Florida gave Kentucky a real run last month, but the team ended up getting the 68-61 win to preserve perfection. Can the Gators be the team that ruins the Wildcats' moment?
If Kentucky were to go undefeated in the regular season and potentially at least the SEC tournament, there will be a lot of debate as to where they fall on the spectrum of greatest college basketball teams. There is no doubting the weakness of the SEC. They do have marquee wins against teams like Kansas who they beat by 32 points and UCLA who was beaten by 39 points. They also got double-digit wins over Texas and North Carolina. The team has been No. 1 all year long, beating teams by an average of 22 points.
Kentucky has been challenged a few times this year. The start of SEC play saw the team need two overtime wins to get going. The trailed by nine points against Georgia before beating them 72-64. This time when they face Florida, they will have freshman Tyler Lyles healthy. He missed the last game with strep throat. The Gators are aware they let one get away from them last month against Kentucky and would like to avoid the feeling again.
The Indiana Hoosiers were the last team to go unbeaten and win the NCAA championship. That happened in 1976. Several teams do have plus-30 win seasons. Wichita State went 35-0 before losing to Kentucky last year in March Madness.
