The Oakland Raiders are expected to be active this offseason and the team is targeting Randall Cobb with a big contract and they could agree once the free agency period opens and this comes as names like Adrian Peterson, Ndamukong Suh, Julius Thomas, DeMarco Murray, Jeremy Maclin, CJ Spiller and Jordan Cameron could be potential options on the FA market.
The Raiders are trying to build around young quarterback Derek Carr and he needs weapons on offense and Cobb could be that explosive option for the team. Jack Del Rio comes in to take over for Dennis Allen after he was fired and owner Mark Davis is hoping for some improvement in 2015. The team won just three games last season and eight in the previous two years and now Del Rio has the chance to rebuild things along with GM Reggie McKenzie.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Raiders have been in contact with Randall Cobb's agent and they are making a "hard push" for him in free agency. Cobb is the most logical target for the Raiders, as the team wants a playmaking wide receiver and they have money to spend. Cobb is asking for more money than the Packers are willing to give and on top of that, players like Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas were franchise tagged, making Cobb the best available receiver on the market.
Cobb is coming off of a career season and at just 24 years old, he is expecting to get a major contract. According to Charles Robinson on Yahoo Sports, the Packers are not willing to go over $9 million per season for Cobb and the Raiders could offer up to $11 million per year. Cobb's age and his skill set makes him a top target on the market and teams like the Browns, Jets and Vikings could be potential options for Cobb. Last season Cobb had 91 catches for 1287 yards and 12 touchdowns and he played in 16 games after previously missing 10 in 2013 with a knee injury.
Suh is a main target for the team on defense and they also reportedly could go after Julius Thomas. According to Bill Williamson on ESPN, the Raiders may focus on Thomas and Cobb over Suh, as they want to add more on the offensive side of the ball. Suh is in range for the Raiders despite his massive contract demands, as the team has over $55 million in cap space to spend. According to the DEnver Post, Thomas is expected to leave the Broncos this offseason and teams like the Raiders, Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars could be his top suitors along with the Seahawks.
Murray could be an option if he leaves the Cowboys, but if he decides to remain in Dallas, the team could turn to CJ Spiller or Mark Ingram. The team has Latavius Murray as a young player on the rise, but with Darren McFadden hitting free agency and Maurice Jones-Drew retiring, the team needs some depth at the position. Spiller is not returning to the Bills after they traded for LeSean McCoy, while the Saints likely will not bring back Ingram with the cap space they have. Spiller is also a target for the Cowboys, Eagles, 49ers, Jets and Giants, according to NFL.com.
