Miami Dolphins Rumors: Ndamukong Suh to Sign Contract In Free Agency With CJ Spiller, Torrey Smith Targets?

Mar 08, 2015 01:52 PM EDT

The Miami Dolphins could be an active team this offseason, as reports have the team leading the Ndamukong Suh free agent sweepstakes and they also may target players like CJ Spiller and Torrey Smith and this comes as the team may trade Mike Wallace after the released of Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson and Dannell Ellerbe.

The Dolphins missed the playoffs once again and now they have high expectations coming into the 2015 season. Charles Robinson at Yahoo Sports writes that Suh is being talked about in NFL circles as if Miami is a "done deal" and it comes as reports have the Chargers, Giants and Raiders interested. Suh is considered to be the top free agent on the market and he is looking for a massive deal that is worth over $100 million.

--UPDATE: Jeremy Maclin has signed with the Chiefs in free agency.

CJ Spiller is considered to be a target for the team, as ESPN.com reports that the Buffalo Bills are not re-signing him after trading for LeSean McCoy. The team may also look at players like Maclin, Torrey Smith or Randall Cobb if they trade Mike Wallace. The tag for Suh would be up around $25 million and that was simply too much for the Lions and now they could risk losing him. The Dolphins have some other areas where they could look apart from Suh, including at running back and wide receiver

According to ESPN.com, Suh is looking for a $100 million contract with at least $50 million guaranteed and if he follows through on that, only certain teams can afford it. Suh wants to be one of the highest paid players in football and PFT writes that one thing that could sway the defensive lineman is the fact that Florida has no state income taxes. Suh is considered to be the top player on the free agent market and he is on his way there after the Lions opted not to use the franchise tag on him.

Spiller is hitting the free agent market after missing time with an injury last season for the Bills. According to Josina Anderson on Twitter, the Cardinals, Dolphins, Jets and San Francisco 49ers are interested in signing Spiller. Spiller reportedly turned down a $4.5 million per year offer from the Bills and that means he could be asking for more on the market. Spiller has had a solid career, but over the past two seasons his numbers have been disappointing compared to 2012, when he put up his best numbers with 1244 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Spiller played that season under Chan Gailey and now that he is with the Jets, the team could look at signing Spiller.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Dolphins could chase after Jeremy Maclin in free agency if they move Wallace, as offensive coordinator Bill Lazor was previously with the Eagles. Hartline frees up some space for the Dolphins and he was cut after a disappointing season of just 39 catches for 474 yards and two touchdowns. Hartline had been over 70 catches and 1000 yards in each of the previous two seasons and that made his drop-off even starker. Hartline is durable and has not missed a game since 2010.
