For the time begin, the Cleveland Browns appear to have their quarterback rotation set. The team looks ready to move on with Josh McCown as their potential starter while they continue to try and develop Johnny Manziel for the future. There is still a chance the team makes a move in the draft, but for now things are settled. The Browns will now focus on other positions when the free agent market opens up on Tuesday and a wide receiver will be a top priority.
The Browns must move quickly on a receiver. The team is in desperate need of a true No. 1 after they operated off an inconsistent rotation last year. However, over the weekend several big names were taken off the market. Jeremy Maclin and Randall Cobb appear set to sign elsewhere, leaving the Browns to scramble slightly. This could open the team up to targeting veterans before getting a rookie in the draft.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns could be players for Andre Johnson once his future is decided with the Houston Texans. The franchise gave their long-time receiver the chance to seek out a trade, but that is not likely to happen which will result in his release. Johnson wants to be a starter and an every-down player and the Browns give him that chance. They need Johnson to be a top target for their quarterback because they have no one else. Johnson will be available come Tuesday and Cleveland needs to make a move.
The Browns could try and target someone younger like Percy Harvin. The receiver is expected to be released by the New York Jets on Monday and the Browns could try and sign him. Harvin will be expensive. He has a big contract now that he was unwilling to reduce. That means he will be eyeing a similar deal in free agency. If the Browns want to spend, they could try and grab Harvin.
The Browns could also be in play for guys like Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline or Michael Crabtree. They will also need a tight end and Julius Thomas is not going to be an option. Could they get Jordan Cameron to come back? That is unlikely which could force Cleveland to eye moves in the draft.
