Danny Welbeck has no worries about competition from Robin Van Persie! The England international, coming off his best season for Manchester United last year, penned a new four-year contract with the club, keeping him at Old Trafford till 2016.
Discussions on a new contract have been going on throughout the summer, with both parties, initially, disagreeing on wages. However, after a few rounds of talks, an agreement was reached between the club and their player, with Welbeck, who has supported United his entire life, now keen to kick on and have an even better season.
"Playing for United is all I've ever wanted to do -- it's the club I've supported all my life," Welbeck told the club's official website. "I can't wait for the challenge of the new season to play my part in helping the team compete for trophies.
"I'm learning all the time from the best manager in the game and I'm keen for that to continue alongside the world class players in the squad."
Ferguson said earlier in the summer, he expects great things from his striker, who impressed for England during Euro 2012, with the United manager delighted to have tied down the youngster for at least four years.
"Danny has been with the club since he was eight years old and has made fantastic progress in the last couple of years -- first out on loan and last year as a regular in the first team," Ferguson said.
"He has become an important player at international level as well, as the maturity of his performances at the European Championships showed. This year is another important one for him. He has a bright future ahead of him."
Rather than being bothered by the arrival of Van Persie, who sealed a move from Arsenal last week, Ferguson expects the 21-year-old to learn from the Dutch striker, who was named last year's player of the year after scoring 37 goals in all competitions.
"You can always learn from great players," the Scot said. "Remember what (Eric) Cantona did for all the young players when he arrived? He was a tremendous teacher for them.
"Danny will learn from playing with Robin, (Wayne) Rooney and Chicharito."
