The New York Giants may target Ron Parker as a free agent if Antrel Rolle leaves and this comes as the team has made some free agency deals, signing Shane Vereen, Jonathan Casillas, Dwayne Harris, JT Thomas and Marshall Newhouse while also keeping Mark Herzlich and Henry Hynoski on contracts and the next move for the team could be giving Eli Manning a contract extension.
According to ESPN.com, the team brought back Herzlich and Hynoski on deals and have signed receiver/returner Dwayne Harris, former Patriots linebacker Jonathan Casillas, former Packers tackle Marshall Newhouse and former Jaguars linebacker JT Thomas. The team also reached a deal for Vereen, who was with the Patriots for his career.
The team needed an RB that could catch passes out of the backfield and Vereen fits the bill after being the top pass catcher for the Pats in the playoffs. According to Dan Graziano, Chiefs safety Ron Parker could be a target for the team if Rolle leaves, as he is meeting with the Chicago Bears.
The Giants offensive line could be one area of focus this offseason, with Dan Graziano at ESPN.com suggested that Bryan Bulaga could be a target, but he now is staying with the Packers. Justin Pugh has the ability to play all around the offensive line and with the emergence of Weston Richburg, the team could bring on a veteran and still be able to fill the line around him. The Giants dealt with a number of injuries last season, including to Jon Beason and Victor Cruz and they will be looking to get those players back healthy for 2015.
Running back Rashad Jennings dealt with injuries last season and missed time and while rookie Andre Williams emerged as a solid option, the Giants could look at adding depth this offseason. The Giants were one of the worst rushing teams in the league and after Manning had a bounce back year with Ben McAdoo, getting a consistent running attack could be huge for the offense going forward and now they add Vereen.
Suh came in for way too much for the Giants and since they want to keep Pierre-Paul, there's wasn't any real action on trying to get Suh. The team spent in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a number of other free agents last offseason and that could mean the team is quiet when it comes to big names. JPP is the top free agent for the Giants along with Antrel Rolle, who is hitting the market after five years with the team. Rolle and Pierre-Paul have expressed interest in staying with the team, while Walter Thurmond is gone after signing a one year deal and was injured for most of the season.
JPP will cost quite a bit for the Giants after the strong season he just had and they are waiting to see if a new deal gets done or the one year franchise tag option. The New York Giants wanted be active on the free agent market this offseason but with Jason Pierre-Paul getting the franchise tag and Ndamukong Suh, Bryan Bulaga and Mark Ingram heading elsewhere, Jerry Reese took care of other needs.
