Boston Red Sox Rumors 2012: Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett on Waivers?

Aug 23, 2012 11:14 AM EDT

------UPDATE---- The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed Adrian Gonzalez from the Red Sox waiver. Information on the move has yet to develop.

The Boston Red Sox are making moves, drastic moves, that is. They have been rumored to have placed Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett on waivers.

As reported by Sean McAdam, writer for FoxSports.com and retweeted by CBS reporter Jon Heyman, the Red Sox have placed their first baseman Gonzalez on waivers and Heyman earlier reported that the Red Sox also placed Beckett on waivers.

These were the tweets, Jon Heyman broadcasting both tweets.

Adrian gonzalez also on trade waivers, as @Sean_McAdam said. decent chance hed be claimed. cant see #redsox trading him tho.

Josh Beckett is on trade waivers now. Competing execs don't expect him to be claimed. #redsox

Gonzalez has been rumored to being one of the players who sent GM Ben Cherington a text about a private meeting regarding manager Bobby Valentine, which places the first baseman in the middle of the deteriorating Boston clubhouse. Don't expect Gonzalez to be moved. It will take a mighty bold trade to get Gonzalez out of a Red Sox uniform.

As for Beckett, who will want him now? It is not even about the numbers, his attitude and lack of interest with the press is seen as a disrespectful sign to Red Sox Nation. What other club would want to bring that vibe into their clubhouse and fan base?

As of now, it would be considered a miracle if Beckett gets mioved. His numbers are horrible and not to mention he is signed through 2014 and owed $15.75 million in each of the next two seasons.

Josh Beckett has not pitched like an ace. Josh Beckett does not carry himself around in Boston like an ace. Cherington should have listened to the Atlanta Braves during the trade deadline as the team was interested in the pitcher.

It will be interesting to see what teams would go after Beckett. Do not even look at the Oakland Athletics, who lost right hander Bartolo Colon after being nabbed for his use of PEDs, as a possible landing spot. Billy Bean won't have it. Not unless the Red Sox absorb the millions of dollars Becket is owed.
