The San Antonio Spurs appear to be the kryptonite of LeBron James. While the forward has plenty of success on his resume, but the Spurs have caused him headaches over the past few years including last year's NBA Finals when they topped the Miami Heat, ending James' hopes of a repeat title. Now with the Cleveland Cavaliers, James and company look to see just how well they are playing as they hit the road to face the Spurs.
James is heading back to San Antonio for the first time since seeing the team in the NBA Finals. In his career, James has lost 12 of 17 games in San Antonio while averaging just 25.5 points against the team, his worst against any Western Conference team. The Cavaliers have some momentum after falling to the Atlanta Hawks. They are fresh off a road win over the Dallas Mavericks where James had 17 points and eight assists. The Cavaliers are 22-5 since Jan. 15 while battling for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. They are now averaging 107.4 points per game, a big improvement from where they once were.
The Spurs are coming off a rough patch while sitting in sixth in the Western Conference standings. In their last six games, they are averaging 112.2 points on 48.0 percent shooting after dropping four on a nine-game road trip. They are coming off a win over the Toronto Raptors where Kwahi Leonard had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Tony Parker added 23 points and nine assists. The point guard has found his shot once again, averaging 24.5 points in his last four games after putting up just 6.8 in the five games before that.
The concern for the Spurs is the health of Tim Duncan. The center hyperextended his left elbow and is day-to-day, but head coach Gregg Popovich is positive he should be able to return. The same can said for Manu Ginobili who has been out with an illness.
