The MLS season is underway and New York City FC is in its inaugural year and they have looked good to start, winning their first home game at Yankee Stadium, defeating the New England Revolution 2-0 to put NYCFC on the board and keeping them clean in the loss column in 2015.
NYCFC sold out Yankee Stadium to open their home schedule and the team started off with a major introduction before winning in front of over 40,000 fans. The Revolution won the eastern conference last year and they came in looking to spoil the party, but David Villa did not let that happen. Villa started off his run in the Bronx with a goal in the first 20 minutes and it was his first goal in Major League Soccer play. Villa was up and down the field looking strong and that is significant for Villa and the team moving forward.
Mix Diskerud scored the first goal for the team against Orlando and he helped set up Villa's goal at 19 minutes into the game. That was also the first league goal scored at Yankee Stadium and the second goal in the game came from Patrick Mullins, who was with NE when they made it to the MLS Cup last season. Mullins was selected in the expansion draft and he put in a pass from Villa, who crossed the ball and looked strong on the front end.
The team comes into the week without a loss in two matches after pulling a draw with Orlando and winning against New England. The team will play against the Colorado Rapids on the road next and they will return home with a game against Sporting KC. The Yankees have expressed some concern about the quality of the field following games, but that is an issue the two teams will just have to deal with.
