The Brooklyn Nets have what it takes to win the NBA championship, so says their center Brook Lopez as he was interviewed by the media in the Philippines as he took part in the NBA 3X event.
The good news about this claim as Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and New York Knick fans scoff at the statement, is that Lopez was realistic and humble about it. Nothing too fancy about his words.
"Obviously, our main goal is no question the NBA championship. I think it is realistic for us. We're already a good playoff team with the addition of other pieces, we can target the ring," said Lopez.
Lopez was rumored to being a piece in the Nets' deal as they tried to land center Dwight Howard. After teams attempted to draw the center away from Brooklyn, the Nets offered him a four-year $61 million deal.
They made a big move by trading for Joe Johnson, giving the team a much needed perimeter presence.
They brought back Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries to complete the starting five.
They arguably have one of the most complete starting fives in the league. Humphries is a terrific rebounder and Lopez can man the paint. Wallace brings his veteran attitude to the Nets and can help on defense. Williams and Johnson can take care of the outside and cause havoc in the paint when they penetrate.
It will be an exciting season at the Barclays Center as the Nets get ready to inaugurate their season in Brooklyn.
