-----Update---- Adrian Gonzalez and Kames lonely have been scratched from their respective lineups.
According to Los Angeles Times reporter Bill Shaikin, the L.A. Dodgers have been awarded their claim on superstar first baseman Adrian Gonzalez from the Boston Red Sox.
This comes minutes after Pete Abe, Boston Red Sox beat writer tweeted:
"Whether it's a prominent player (Beckett) or somebody else, have to think the #RedSox will deal some guys away in the next 7 days"
Nothing has been worked out between both clubs, but the trade is in the talks.
What complicates moving Gonzalez is the money. As Pete Abe reports, he is owed $127 million after the 2013 season and still has six years left in his monster contract with the Red Sox.
Gonzalez, who has been notorious for his power all around the field, has been disillusioned with playing in Fenway Park. The Green Monster hovers in left field, cutting down on his power numbers.
The first baseman, according to Pete Abe, has expressed his dislike of playing in Boston. So the Dodgers could come away with a steal in this one.
They have already made noise during the trade rumors before the deadline. They added Hanley Ramirez and Shane Victorino to boost their lineups. Adding Gonzalez in the middle of that order would be devastating for the rest of the league.
James Loney is their current first basemen but he has mediocre numbers. With Ramirez, Victorino, Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp, the Dodgers could have the scariest lineup in the National League.
Gonzalez still resides in San Diego, so the thought of playing in L.A. would be a no-brainer.
So far the Red Sox and Dodgers appear to be in talks. No players have been named in a deal, but they are more than likely prospects and maybe, this is just a thought, major league ready pitching talent.
