La Liga Results: Real Madrid Crash to Getafe; Lionel Messi Inspires Barcelona to Narrow Win Over Osasuna

Real Madrid continued their disappointing start to the new La Liga season, going down 2-1 to Getafe, as Barcelona scored a comeback 2-1 victory over Osasuna.

The beginning of the campaign has been a forgettable one for Jose Mourinho's side so far. After being held to a draw by Valencia in their opening La Liga fixture, Real lost 3-2 to archrivals Barca in the first leg of the Spanish Supercup Thursday.

Those disappointing results were compounded by Getafe, who came from behind to pick up all three points. Gonzalo Higuain opened the scoring for Real, just like he had in the match against Valencia which ended 1-1, and Real looked like they would stroll to a victory. However, Getafe put in a brilliant second half performance, with goals from Juan Valera and Abdelaziz Barrada consigning the defending champions to a defeat. Real now have just one point after their first two matches, and already lie five points behind Barcelona, who picked up a win thanks to their talisman Lionel Messi.

Osasuna looked like they were going to steal all three points against their illustrious opponents when Joseba Llorente volleyed home in the 17th minute. Barcelona, failed to find the target for a long period, despite having bags of possession, and were made to wait till the 75th minute, when the best player in the world came to the fore for his side, like he does time and again.

Messi put in a trademark jinking run towards the penalty box, before playing the ball to Alexis Sanchez; the Chilean returned the favor, with the Argentine poking home the equaliser from close-range. That goal, however, led to the dismissal of Osasuna midfielder Patxi Punal, who was given his marching orders for taking his protests too far. Osasuna were arguing about the fact that Sanchez was offside when Messi played the ball in for the forward, a call missed by the referee's assistant.

Down to 10-men, Osasuna's torment was complete when Messi slammed home a low shot from just outside the box in the 80th minute.

In the day's other match, Sevilla and Granada played out a 1-1 draw.
