The Philadelphia Eagles are trying to maintain the idea they are set at the quarterback position. Chip Kelly has come out and said the team is not waging their future on Marcus Mariota. They gave up a lot to acquire Sam Bradford in a trade while not getting any looks at a potential deal for Matt Barkley. However, they are not helping their case by eyeing Tim Tebow. One thing is for certain, it does not look like Bradford is headed anywhere.
According to NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, the Browns will not be attempting to trade again for Bradford. NFL sources confirmed they were the team that offered a first-round draft pick for the former St. Louis Rams quarterback, but after the deal was denied, they are setting their sights on Mariota. Jeremiah writes team is still not thrilled with their quarterback options. There is a huge question mark over Manziel as he remains in rehab. McCown is coming off a terrible season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and may or may not rekindle that former stint he had with the Chicago Bears. There is not a long-term option on the roster, something the Browns are desperate for.
There will likely not be any other interest in a trade for Bradford before the draft unless the Tennessee Titans all of a sudden emerge as a candidate. The Eagles cannot afford to make another big jump in the draft for Mariota given what Bradford cost them which means they will enter the season with the quarterbacks currently on the roster. The Eagles could still make a move with Barkley. According to ESPN.com, Philadelphia would like to acquire a late draft pick for Barkley in order to restock after the Bradford trade. That could happen and would be productive considering Barkley will never see the field for the Eagles.
There is still the question of whether or not the Eagles eye a quarterback in the draft. With Bradford entering the final year of his contract and negotiations on an extension unlikely, the Eagles do not have a long-term quarterback option. NJ.com reported the Eagles do like what they see in Brett Hundley and could also target Bryce Petty with his arm. They would be available in a later round and Philly could get them rather than giving up more for Mariota.
