The rumors around Philip Rivers continue to fly as the quarterback doubts his future in San Diego. The quarterback is preparing to enter the final year of his contract and typically the Chargers would aim to get him under a new contract sooner rather than later. He certainly fits the mold of a franchise quarterback and one San Diego would aim to keep around. However, the San Diego Chargers could become the Los Angeles Chargers soon rather than later, something Rivers is not a fan of.

According to CBSSports.com, Rivers is willing to let his current contract expire while he waits to hear about the future of the team in San Diego. Rivers told U-T San Diego that he is not totally keen on the idea of moving to Los Angeles which of course opens him up to a large number of trade rumors this offseason.

"What we've established here with my growing family is hard to recreate," Rivers said, via U-T San Diego. "It's hard to up and recreate that. I know that moves are part of life. But that certainly is fair to say that (not being sold on moving to Los Angeles) is part of it. The good thing is I'm not under contract in a year where we'd potentially be in Los Angeles."

According to NFL.com, the Chargers are eyeing Marcus Mariota and Brett Hundley in the draft. They are preparing to work out both quarterbacks an could eye them as potential replacements to Rivers should he bolt San Diego this season or next. The quarterback is set to earn $17.4 million in the coming season which is not ideal for any team to take on, but Rivers is ready to start Week 1 which is very enticing to teams. Could a return to the East Coast be the ideal move for Rivers?

CBS Sports makes the case for Rivers to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles in the coming year. Barring a trade up for Mariota, the Eagles will have quarterback issues once again next offseason. The team is making no moves to re-sign Sam Bradford who has an expiring contract and they do not look ready to start Mark Sanchez or Matt Barkley. Rivers would thrive in the offseason of Chip Kelly considering his quick release and excellent deep-ball skills.

There will be a lot of interest in Rivers if the Chargers let him go. Any team that misses out on Mariota or Jameis Winston in the draft will likely need an upgrade in a year or two. Getting Rivers could be the best option moving forward.
