Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors 2012: Roy Oswalt Waived By Rangers, Should L.A. Be Interested?

Aug 28, 2012 01:49 PM EDT

The Texas Rangers waived starting pitcher and veteran Roy Oswalt Tuesday morning and the rumors have already begun swirling that the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly interested, but is it a joke or are they serious?

The Dodgers have made the most memorable trades of the 2012 season. They freed Hanley Ramirez from Miami and acquired Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies.

They made the biggest trade since Alex Rodriguez' move from the Rangers to the New York Yankees after acquiring slugger Adrian Gonzalez, outfielder Carl Crawford and pitcher Josh Beckett from the Boston Red Sox.

However, are the Dodgers done with this just move? Rumor has it that they are still not satisfied.

Oswalt went 4-2 in the 2012 season with an ERA just under six. He still has something in the tank. He gave up only one run in four of his eight starts. His ERA inflated because he made relief appearances at the end of his stint with the Rangers.

He pitched 1.1 innings against the Red Sox and gave up 4 earned runs, which will balloon any ERA.

Right before the Rangers acquired Ryan Dempster, Oswalt had an outing against the Los Angeles Angeles where he gave up 8 earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

The Dodgers are serious about getting veteran pitchers. Oswalt will give them the flexibility of not burning out their starting pitching late in the season. He can work as the long-relief man from the bullpen in case of a large blow out early in the game, that way they also save their bullpen's arms.

Oswalt can provide veteran leadership as the Dodgers have made bold moves that should have them running away with the National League West.
