The New York Knicks will be making the point guard position a priority in the upcoming offseason. Jose Calderon has simply not been consistent enough in terms of health and production for the Knicks to count on him for the future. Team president Phil Jackson has made it clear he is anything but committed to the point guard originally acquired in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks, leaving the team looking for long-term options for the future. Langston Galloway hopes he is part of that bigger picture.

Galloway has emerged as a bright spot for the Knicks this season after he was signed to two 10-day contracts before getting picked up for the remainder of the season and next year as well. The point guard got off to an incredibly hot start and has cooled off since, but is showing real signs of potential. According to ESPN's Ian Begley, the Knicks are aiming to trade Calderon in the offseason before picking up an long-term option, but Galloway stands a chance at being a rotational player for the Knicks next year as well.

The Knicks have a lengthy wishlist at the point guard position. The New York Post reports Rajon Rondo is a priority in free agency as he is expected to exit the Dallas Mavericks after issues with the coaching staff. Goran Dragic is an option as well despite his mid-season trade to the Miami Heat. Reggie Jackson could be a target if the Detroit Pistons do not re-sign him as well as Brandon Knight. Any of those players would likely become immediate starters, but Galloway would be a quality rotational player.

Right now as the Knicks sit at the bottom of the NBA in terms of record, Galloway is simply trying to stay focused while admitting that the season and the losing is taking a toll on him.

"I've been talking with the coaches and different people just trying to figure out how to work on these back-to-back games because I've been struggling on the second part of the back-to-backs," Galloway said, via Newsday.com. "I'm just mentally tired sometimes. I'm just trying to figure out ways to get over that and get better."

Galloway has been averaging 40.6 minutes per game over the past five games in seven nights. With Calderon injured and Carmelo Anthony out for the year, Galloway is playing an extended amount of time simply because the team is short on bodies. It is helping him audition for a role next season as the Knicks are seeing the type of work ethic and effort Galloway can bring to the team next year.
