Aug 29, 2012 09:59 AM EDT

No. 4 ranked, David Ferrer of Spain will face Russian Kevin Anderson in a first round Men's Singles matchup at the 2012 U.S. Open.

Ferrer will attempt to continue his dominance of the first few rounds at Grand Slam tournaments.

For the past few seasons he has knocked on the door at the U.S. Open quarterfinals but fallen short after back-to-back 4th round eliminations in 2010 and 2011.

So far this year, he has been a quarterfinalist twice in the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He made it all the way to the semis at the French Open.

Prior to the 2012 French Open, Ferrer had been to the semifinals three times in his career. He appeared in the 2011 semis at the Australian Open and before that, his best success came in Queens at the 2007 U.S. Open when he reached the semis once again.

Ferrer's opponent, Kevin Anderson hails from South Africa and has been a pro for six years.

He has not had much success being eliminated in the third round twice in the Australian Open and French Open. He was bounced in the first round at Wimbledon.
