Victoria Azarenka continues to dominate in Women's Singles at the 2012 U.S. Open. The No. 1 ranked female won easily over Kirsten Flipkens in two straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Azarenka simply outplayed her challenger from Belgium. She committed less errors and never committed a double-fault, ensuring to place the ball in play on every serve.
The Spaniard and No. 4 ranked David Ferrer had a bit of a tougher time putting away his opponent Kevin Anderson in his first match of the 2012 U.S. Open.
Anderson forced Ferrer to play 10 games before taking the first set 6-4. Then Ferrer breezed by the second set 6-2.
Anderson then once again pushed Ferrer, this time in a more intense set that had to be settled in a tiebreaker.
Ferrer eventually took control in the tiebreaker and defeated the South African in 7(7)-6(3).
The final top player to advance on Wednesday afternoon was Russian Janko Tipsarevic and he barely made it into the next round.
Tipsarevic battled Guillaume Rufin of France in a battle that went to five sets.
Tipsarevic bounced back from an 0-2 set deficit, 4-6, 3-6 to win the next three sets convincingly 6-2,6-3, 6-2 to avoid the upset.
For Azarenka, Jia Zheng of China the 28th ranked woman will await in the third round.
Ferrer will face Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands. Tipsarevic will face American Brian Baker.
Both of the men's matches will be second round competitions.
