Chelsea and John Terry have agreed on an extension on the captain's contract that runs through the 2015-16 English Premier League season, ending any speculation about the defender leaving the Blues this summer, as his contract was set to expire.

According to the BBC, Chelsea has extended Terry's contract through the 2015-16 campaign and it comes as the 34-year-old has helped the Blues get to the top of the Premier League table. Terry has played in over 500 games for Chelsea and manager Jose Mourinho praised his captain following the news about the deal, saying he is a "top defender" and an important leader.

Chelsea is leading the Premier League by six points over Manchester City and they have been on top of the table all season. Chelsea remains the favorites for the EPL title and they also won the Capital One Cup final but flamed out of the Champions League to PSG in the round of 16.

"I am happy that he completely deserves this new contract after a season where he has already played 40 matches," said Mourinho, according to the BBC.
