NFL Season Opener Predictions 2012: New York Giants Will Defeat Dallas Cowboys (Commentary)

Aug 30, 2012 01:30 PM EDT

We are less than a week away from the launching of the 2012-2013 NFL Season and the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants will face off against their longtime rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants should continue their dominance over the Cowboys in the first game of the season as both teams will meet on Wednesday, September 5 for the season opener in Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.

The Giants possess the better defensive line and the better quarterback. Eli Manning proved how he can control the tempo of the game as he blossomed last season into the true leader running the offense.

The combination of Mathias Kiwanuka, Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul and Osi Umenyiora is too lethal for offensive lines to protect. Of course, the Giants' secondary is always a question.

Another question mark is the offense. Will Victor Cruz have the same dynamic performance in 2012? Will Hakeem Nicks come back and have a dominant season?

However, the Giants have always had question marks when heading into the season and they faced the same issue last season without a true No. 1 wide out, but they managed to get everybody involved and Manning became the key to their success.

The Dallas Cowboys have the upper hand in rushing, but despite the Giants' questions on receiving, their main man Jason Witten is still 50-50 as he is recuperating from a ruptured spleen.

Dez Bryant and Miles Austin have spent some time out with injuries.

The Cowboys will also have to keep their eye on Giants' rookie David Wilson who showed some skill in the preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

All in all I have the Cowboys losing to the Giants 27-17. Victor Cruz and Nicks will each have a touchdown and Wilson will rush one in for the Giants.
