The NY Giants have Eli Manning coming into the final year of his contract this season and reports have the team is "comfortable" with him playing it out over a contract extension and this comes as names like Amari Cooper, Bryce Petty, Landon Collins, Brandon Scherff and Kevin White are potential draft options.
The Giants are coming into 2015 with high expectations after missing the playoffs again and Manning will be looking to have another good year after bouncing back last season. According to ESPN.com, the Giants have not closed the door on a contract extension with Manning, but the team is okay if a deal does not get done. The Giants won six games last season, but the franchise opted to bring back Tom Coughlin and now he will be under pressure to win again.
The team has Victor Cruz coming back from a serious knee injury and both Coughlin and Reese have said that they are preparing as if he may not be ready for Week 1. The emergence of Odell Beckham Jr. helped last season after Cruz went down with an injury and now the Giants will be relying on him again in 2015. The draft could offer the opportunity for the team to add even more depth at the position, as the wide receiver position is deep in this class.
The Giants have a top 10 pick in the draft this season and there are a number of positions they could look at with the selection, including wide receiver, offensive line and safety. The team may not be able to pass up Amari Cooper or Kevin White if they are available, as Jerry Reese often takes the "best player available", but many experts see Brandon Scherff as the option. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper both have predicted that Giants will take Scherff, as the team has a need on the offensive line and need to get younger at the position.
The Giants missed out on all the top safeties and that is a primary need and could lead the team to target Landon Collins. Scherff is looking like the likely pick right now, but the Giants could wait and see who is available before deciding on which side of the ball to draft on. Jason Pierre-Paul is franchise tagged and the draft has some solid pass rushers the team could consider, including Shane Ray and Randy Gregory.
The Giants have Odell Beckham and would love to pair him with Cruz, but the team may not be able to rely on that and that could lead Reese to look at Cooper or DeVante Parker. Manning is in the final year of his contract and while the team has Ryan Nassib, the Giants could look at drafting a future replacement. Bryce Petty is one of the top players past Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, while Brett Hundley, Shane Carden and Taylor Kelly are also coming out this year.
The Giants offense had a bounce back year and ranked seventh in passing yards per game under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. The rushing attack was not consistent enough and that is one area the team will try and improve. Shane Vereen was signed to help move the chains out of the backfield and he could be a major weapon for Eli Manning.
