Philadelphia Eagles Cuts: Joselio Hanson And O.J. Atogwe Among Nineteen Players Cut Before Friday's Deadline

With Friday's roster deadline looming, the Philadelphia Eagles veteran defensive backs Joselio Hanson and O.J. Atogwe were among 19 players released.

Hanson spent the last six seasons in Philadelphia and was the team's nickel cornerback.

Hanson was released on the final day of cutdowns last summer as well, but quickly returned on a team-friendly deal. That's not expected to be the case this time around.

Atogwe signed as a free agent in the offseason, but couldn't crack the starting lineup at safety.

Hamstring issues kept Atogwe out of the previous two preseason games heading into the Jets matchup. He also dealt with a groin issue in training camp. Eagles coach Andy Reid hinted on Thursday night that the injuries could put Atogwe in danger.

"It makes it a little tougher," Reid said of evaluating Atogwe, according to Philly.com.

It's been a swift fall from grace for Atogwe, a standout with the St. Louis Rams who signed a five-year, $26 million deal with the Washington Redskins in March 2011. Injuries limited his effectiveness and he was dumped by Mike Shanahan after one season. He signed a one-year deal with the Eagles in June.

Philadelphia's roster now stands at 56 players. The team must get down to 53 by Friday's 9 p.m. ET deadline.
