The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be open to a Doug Martin trade this offseason along with quarterback Mike Glennon, as the team is expected to take Jameis Winston with the number one overall pick in the draft and teams like the Cleveland Browns or NY Jets could be interested in Martin, while Glennon could be a target for the Bills, Browns and Jets.
The Buccaneers are coming into the draft with the top overall pick after having the worst record in football in the 2014 season. Winston has long been considered the presumptive number one overall pick and that has sparked rumors that Glennon could be expendable. ESPN reporter Pat Yasinskas writes that Glennon could be on the move and he also reports that Martin could be an option for the Bucs to trade and it likely would take a "mid-round" draft pick for a team to acquire him. Martin had a strong rookie season, but he has dealt with injuries ever since.
Martin was being shopped at the trade deadline for the Buccaneers last season along with Vincent Jackson, but the team did not deal either player. Yasinskas writes that the Buccaneers are satisfied with Bobby Rainey and Charles Sims along with Mike James on the depth chart and they are okay with moving Martin due to the deep class of running backs in the upcoming draft. Martin is just 26 years old, but over the last two seasons he has missed significant time with injuries.
Last season Martin played in 11 games and head 494 yards and two touchdowns. The previous season Martin missed 10 games and rushing for 456 yards and just one touchdown and now he could be a target to get moved. Martin had his best season in 2012 as a rookie, rushing for 1454 yards and catching 49 balls for 472 yards while scoring 12 combined touchdowns. Martin has not been able to get back to that production due to injuries and now the Bucs may look at moving on.
Rich Cimini at ESPN.com writes that the Jets could have interest in trading for Martin, as they have Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell on the roster after getting rid of Chris Johnson. The team may look at the draft for more depth, but they could see Martin as the better option over a prospect or one of the free agents left on the market. Martin's value is low and that could put him in a good spot for the Jets to acquire him. The team visited with free agent Stevan Ridley and could sign him and they could look at Martin as a better option than what they could get in the draft.
Glennon is an option in trades, as Rick Stroud on Twitter reports that "teams have shown interest" in Glennon and he likely could be moved for a mid-round pick. Adam Caplan at ESPN reports that Glennon likely could be had for a third rounder and teams like the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills and NY jets could be options. The Browns reportedly "sniffed around" on Glennon earlier in the offseason, while Mike Francesa said the Jets would be smart to get Glennon, as the Bucs likely will be open to trading him if they take Winston number one.
