NFL Cuts Tracker: Josh McCown and Armando Allen Among Recent Chicago Bears Cuts

Aug 31, 2012 03:17 PM EDT

The Chicago Bears have released backup QB Josh McCown and backup RB Armando Allen ahead of the 53-man roster deadline this evening.

McCown confirmed to the Tribune Friday that he will be among the releases today as the team makes its cuts before the 8 p.m. deadline.

Last night's preseason finale saw both McCown's and Allen's excel when given their chance to start but their strong performances were not enough to sway the organization into keeping them.

McCown passed for two touchdowns in the 28-20 victory over the Browns and was dominant in the first half. He was just as concerned about trying to help those around him fighting for a roster spot.

"More importantly, there are 10 other guys and their careers are on the line as well," McCown said. "As a quarterback you want to move the ball and give them as many opportunities as you can to make plays so they can put themselves in position."

With the release of McCown, it appears the Bears are willing to enter the regular season with just two quarterbacks on the active roster.

The departure of Allen means the Bears appear that they are more comfortable moving forward with Lorenzo Booker as their third running back. Both Booker and Allen put up similar numbers this preseason but Booker's return abilities seemed to have been the difference maker giving him the upper hand.

The Bears have also reportedly waived wide receiver Brittan Golden, cornerback Cornelius Brown, safety Mark LeGree, linebacker Xavier Adibi and seventh round draft pick Greg McCoy.

According to the Chicago Tribune's Vaughn McClure, it appears that the Bears will waive wide receiver Joe Anderson and linebacker Jabara Williams with the intention of signing both to the practice squad.
