Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Matt Barkley Trade Has Tim Tebow Free Agent Option? Marcus Mariota Draft Target After Sam Bradford Deal?

Apr 06, 2015 02:39 PM EDT

The Philadelphia Eagles are shopping a Matt Barkley trade heading into the NFL draft and if Chip Kelly trades the quarterback, there is a good chance the team signs Tim Tebow as a free agent and this comes as the team could have interest in trading up with the Titans for Marcus Mariota even after trading for Sam Bradford from the Rams.

The Eagles have been one of the most active teams this offseason and their offense is going to look very different compared to 2014. Nick Foles is now gone along with starting running back LeSean McCoy and in comes Bradford and the newly signed DeMarco Murray, who was allowed to walk by the Cowboys. While the Eagles said the McCoy move was about money, clearly it was about more than that and now the Eagles have the chance to continue reshaping the roster.

--UPDATE: SB Nation reports that the Browns are interested in a trade for Sam Bradford. The Browns and Eagles could be looking at a trade with Johnny Manziel and a draft pick that includes Bradford going to the Browns. The Browns previously offered the Rams a first round pick for Bradford.

According to NBC Washington's Dianna Marie Russini, the Eagles are shopping Barkley this offseason and the team would be willing to trade him for a late round draft pick. Barkley has served as the third string quarterback over the last two seasons and he has not played much for Kelly. The team could release Barkley, but Kelly likely will wait until the draft to make a move just in case a team looks at trading a pick for the quarterback.

The Eagles previously worked out Tim Tebow this offseason and the team reportedly liked what they saw from the QB. Russini later reported that the team will look at signing Tebow if they move Barkley and they likely have time to wait and see what happens, as no other teams have been interested in Tebow. Tebow has not been with a team since his stint with the Patriots and now the Eagles could look at picking him up.

Kelly and the Eagles have been connected to Marcus Mariota in the draft due to Kelly formerly being the head coach at Oregon, but the team has disputed those rumors. According to Pro Football Talk, Kelly said that Bradford would not be used as a trade chip and that he is preparing to be the starter. ESPN reported that some coaches around the league don't buy that and that they think Kelly could move up for Mariota. While Kelly said the team will not "mortgage" the draft for one player, anything could happen leading up to the start at the end of April.

Chip Kelly was given control over the roster this season and he has used that power to make moves, including trading Foles and McCoy for Bradford and Kiko Alonso. The Eagles signed Murray only after Frank Gore backed out of his deal and now the team has more potential moves they can make at quarterback. The Eagles signed back Mark Sanchez to a deal to serve as the backup for Bradford and clearly Kelly feels comfortable with him playing, as he came in for Foles when he was injured last season.
