Radamel Falcao made a real statement by scoring a hat-trick against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup Friday, and according to his father, the highly-rated striker could be an English Premier League player as soon as January.
Falcao's father, Radamel, after talking to his son, believes the Atletico Madrid forward wants to move to England as soon as possible, with the European champions Chelsea being touted as the most possible destination.
"There are three teams interested -- Manchester City, Chelsea and a Russian team," Falcao Sr is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"Falcao has always wanted to play in the Premier League.
"Ever since he was a boy he has loved Chelsea and has always thought it would be an honor to play for a big Premier League team."
Reports in Colombia suggest a pre-contract agreement is already in place, with the striker ready to move to Stamford Bridge in January, or at the latest next summer. "I don't want to talk about any pre-agreements," Radamel added.
"I spoke to Falcao very briefly yesterday. The minimum release clause in his contract with Atletico Madrid is about 55million Euros, but Falcao doesn't want to talk figures."
It remains to be seen in the Financial Fair Play Era, whether Chelsea would be willing to shell out such an enormous amount, especially having already spent over £80 million ($127 million) this summer for new recruits.
According to ESPN, the Blues made a late bid for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and not Falcao, before the transfer window shut on August 31. "The name of Cavani was mentioned as a possible transfer at Chelsea, but not Falcao," a source told ESPN.
With contrasting reports already surfacing, it remains to be seen where either of the strikers will be at the end of the season, or at the start of next season; although Falcao does look like a better fit for Chelsea than Cavani.
