Victoria Azarenka remains ranked No. 1 in Women's Singles after a victory against Australian and 2011 U.S. Open Champion Samantha Strosur. It took three sets for the victory, but she advanced after winning the match 6-1, 4-6, 7(7)-6(5).

Azarenka took the first serve two serves of the tiebreak as Stosur could not keep the ball in play, whacking to balls extremely out of bounds and the third tiebreak point went straight into the net.

Trailing 4-0, Stosur got a point as Azarenka closed in on the net but could not get the volley in properly. After another unforced error, Stosur was able to creep in closer and the score was 4-2 as the ladies changed sides on the court.

Stosur then sent a forearm down the line and made it a one-point tiebreak. Azarenka got her two-point lead, but then a double fault from Azarenka made it 5-4.

Stosur then got a smash as her set sent Azarenka off the court and tied the match 5-5. Azarenka then took the 6-5 lead on a soft volley after Stosur bashed a ball off the top of the net.

With match point Azarenka had Stosur on her knees on a forehand that went wide left and Azarenka took the match and got into the next round of Women's Singles.

At the beginning of the match, it looked like Azarenka would walk away from the court with an easy victory. She won the first 6-1, but then Stosur, a tough competitor, rallied back in the second set to tie the match 1-1 after a long rain delay, which seemed to have taken Azarenka off her game.

Now, the U.S. Open will have a new winner in the Women's Singles.
