The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are playing live on the MLB schedule as Opening Day comes to STL for the Cards at Busch Stadium and the matchup has the NL central rivals battling at 4:15 pm ET and it will be the aces on the mound with Matt Garza and Adam Wainwright pitching against each other.
The Cardinals opened on the road with the Cubs and then played against the Reds and the team won two of three against Cincy and now they have the Brew Crew coming into St. Louis. The team got a home run from Matt Carpenter to win over the Reds in extra innings and now the team will try and keep things going with their third straight series against a divisional team.
Matt Adams hit his first home run of the season in one of the wins against the Reds and the Cardinals are hoping that he keeps things going. Garza has gone 0-2 at Busch Stadium with a near 7.00 ERA and he could be key for the Brewers moving forward and the Cards will try and rough him up again. Wainwright takes the mound after starting the season against the Cubs and the Brewers are trying to get out of the bottom of the standings.
The Brewers come in at 1-5 on the season and they lost five of six games over the first two series of the season and they opened up at home. The Brewers slumped last year and all but nine of their final 31 games and now they have started off limping this season. Adam Lind has been playing well and the team needs him to keep things up and the pitching matchups for the rest of the series has Lance Lynn and John Lackey for the Cardinals, while Wily Peralta and Mike Fiers are in for the Brewers.
The Brewers have struggled up and down to start the season and that gives the Cardinals a chance to really push them down in the division standings. Garza had a strong start in 2014 by going six scoreless innings against the Cards and now STL will have Wainwright on the mound and that could be big for the team. Wainwright is coming back after dealing with minor shoulder surgery and he is 12-7 with a 2.31 career ERA against the Brew Crew in his run.
The Cardinals are playing at home for the first time since the playoffs last year and now they will have Opening Day in a town that loves baseball. Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy was one of the best players in baseball last season and he is looking to follow that up this year.
