The New York Giants are still stunned as they lost badly to the Dallas Cowboys in the first game of the 2012 NFL season. Though not giving all the blame to the Giants' receivers, Victor Cruz publicly said that he was not all there on Wednesday.
"I just lacked concentration. A couple of them were just me leaving too early before I caught the ball. It is what it is," the wide receiver told reporters of the Star-Ledger after the game. "They were just drops."
There was one pass that Eli Manning through with absolute precision as he split two Cowboy defenders that Cruz had hit off his face mask and off his chest. The catch would have given the Giants a first down and would have helped the team build momentum in the fourth quarter.
This was not the Cruz that struck out of nowhere in 2011 and stole the show with his salsa celebrations after scoring a touchdown. He only went for six catches and 58 yards, production the Giants will have to double if they want to win as they lack dynamic, proven receivers like other top teams in the league.
Had he made those catches, Cruz would have probably surpassed the 100+ yards reception and possibly could have given the team a touchdown.
"It is what it is."
For the Giants' sake, if they want to repeat, Cruz better erase this game from his memory and focus as he is a pivotal piece in the team's 2012 season.
