The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets are set for Game 2 and Game 3 this week for their first round NBA playoffs series and the matchup has the Rockets leading into the second game and TV coverage is from TNT and streaming online starting up past 9:30 pm ET as James Harden, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo take the court.
Houston was one of the best teams in the league this season and they are hosting this matchup and they have home court in the series. The team won game 1 118-108 and they now will be looking to take a 2-0 advantage in the matchup. Dirk comes in after leading the Mavs in scoring and he was right there with James Harden, as both players had 24 points to lead their respective teams.
Harden had an MVP level season and even if he doesn't win the award, he was the most valuable player and he showed it when Howard went down. Howard id back, but it's still the Beard show and Harden will try and get things going again after putting up a double-double in the first game with 24 points and 11 dimes. Trevor Ariza led the way with 11 rebounds for Houston, while Tyson Chandler had 18 boards and Rondo added five assists for the Mavs.
Both teams shot over 40 percent in the game and the Rockets were a bit better from three point range and that was the difference. The Mavericks were down after the first quarter, but they bounced back in the second and outscored the Rockets by nine, but they could not cut the lead enough by the end. The Rockets were very good at home this season and that will make the matchup even tougher. Dirk added eight rebounds and two assists in the first game, while Harden had two rebounds to go along with his solid stat line.
Chandler Parsons left the Rockets last summer and signed with the Mavericks and now he may get a chance to play against his former team again. Reports say that Chandler could be out again with knee issues after missing the last six games during the regular season and he previously had 10 points in the first matchup. Houston has already done better than last season, as they lost their first two games at home before falling to the Blazers in an upset in the first round.
The Mavs defense has been suspect all season and with a team like the Rockets coming in, they will have to find a way to lock it down. Harden is going to be the focal point again and if the team can't stop him, the Mavs likely will fall again.
