The Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers met for their first regular season matchup and Peyton Manning shined in his first start. The Broncos went on to win the game and beat the Steelers 31-19 in a game that was pretty close late in the fourth.
Manning went 19/26 253 yards and 2 touchdowns as he led the no-huddle offense to a few scores.
The biggest play of the game, the completion to Demaryius Thomas for a 71-yard touchdown as the Steelers attempted to blitz Manning. He dumped off the ball to Thomas, he went into the end zone from the Denver's 29 for the score.
Manning struck again putting up the Broncos up for good with a touchdown to former teammate Jacob Tamme. The touchdown gave the Broncos the lead as they trailed 19-14.
Ben Roethlisberger had given the Steelers the 19-14 lead when Pittsburgh trailed 14-13 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Roethlisberger finished the night with touchdowns, 245 yards, but a costly interception ended their attempt at a comeback.
No. 22, Tracy Porter, former New Orleans Saint, picked Roethlisberger off and ran it into the end zone and gave the Broncos a definite 31-19 lead for the victory.
Manning looked good and the Broncos will look forward to next week with their new quarterback.
The Broncos see the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, while the Steelers host the New York Jets.
