The NY Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins are playing live on the NHL playoffs schedule on Wednesday and the Game 4 matchup from CONSOL Energy Center is a massive game for Sidney Crosby and the Pens and the matchup starts at 7 pm ET on the NBC Sports Network and NBCSN Live Extra website with New York up 2-1 overall in the series.
The Rangers won a close game in the first matchup after dominating for most of the matchup, but the Penguins bounced back to tie the series. New York played much better in Game 3 and they held the game in control until the Penguins added a goal in the third. The team was able to hang on and now they have a 2-1 advantage coming into game 4 and they also got home ice back after losing it in game 2.
The Rangers were the best road team in the league this season with 28 wins and they got a crucial win in the last matchup in Game 3. The team took a quick lead with a great pass from Keith Yandle to Carl Hagelin, who put in a slap shot past Marc Andre Fleury. The Rangers have been able to strike first in these games and it was important in that matchup to get going after losing the previous game.
Henrik Lundqvist was brilliant and barely faced any shots in the first period and he also put aside a great chance from Crosby late. Lundqvist was able to keep the team ahead by stopping all but one shot at the end and the Rangers kept things together as the game ended with some punches. The physical nature of the series could continue into Game 4 and some around the league felt the refs did not do enough to keep things in check in the last matchup.
The Rangers know how to win in Pittsburgh, as they came back from a 3-1 deficit last year to win in stunning fashion and now they have the chance to go up by that lead. The Penguins pushed hard at the end and now they will try and come out with that intensity to start this game. The Penguins got two goals from Crosby in Game 2 and the Rangers were down by more than a goal for most of that game and Rick Nash only got them close right et the end.
The Rangers have won both of their games by the score of 2-1 in the playoffs against the Penguins. The next game of the series will be on Friday and then the next two games will be on Sunday and Tuesday if necessary. The Rangers will try and take a commanding lead, as they are the number one seed and the favorites to win this in the playoffs.
